Prune Dessert

INGREDIENTS
2 cups prunes (the dried, pitted kind)
water to cover prunes, for soaking overnight
2/3 cup boiling water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup sugar
strips of peel from 1/2 lemon or 1/2 orange
1/4 cup almonds or 1/4 cup walnuts (chopped)
Whipped cream or whipped topping
DIRECTIONS
Soak the prunes in water overnight to plump them. Take them out of the water and put in slow cooker. Add the 2/3 cup boiling water, sugar, and citrus strips. Cook on HIGH for 3 hours. Remove the citrus peel, discard, and place the prunes in dessert serving dishes.Chill. Serve with chopped nuts and whipped cream or whipped topping.
